fully run. It runs if put on choke, but when I put it into the regular operating setting, it sputters, then dies. I tried spraying carberatuer cleaner in it, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas?

I didn't notice it didn't have the filter until it stopped working.

If it runs with the choke on it is most likely the carb. It needs to be removed, cleaned and rebuilt. It is an easy job. Also make sure that the gas tank is clean and put a new fuel filter on it. Spraying cleaner on and into the carb does very little. Take the engine model number to the local small engine shop and they will provide a repair kit for around $12.00. It comes with instructions for reassembly. Just watch how the control rods/springs are attached when you remove the. Or better take a picture before you start.

You clogged one of the air intakes on the base of it, you will need to take apart the carb in order for it to work. It works when the choke is on because it is ramming alot of air in and compensating. Its very easy to clean but it will take 30 min or so to do the job. There is usually metal screen in the base so make sure that is clean and it should run better. Hope that helped.
