Food which is produced and reared in the UK is ignored in favour of imported produce for official banquets and the Whitehall staff canteens.
Only 49% of the beef, lamb and pork served at the Foreign Office in 2006 was UK-reared, and only 40% of the fruit and vegetables served came from the UK. Britain has the largest variety of cheeses ANYWHERE (600+), but even this did not prevent the Foreign Office from importing 60% of its cheese.

The National Farmers' Union has said they are "shocked" at the revelations, and said that the Government had no excuse for not using British suppliers for the majority of its produce.

What are your opinions? Should British organic, rare-breed and/or small-scale producer food food be showcased by the Foreign Office?

Is this a similar case to the Bernard Matthews scam profiteering with its imported poor quality, diseased turkey?

The farmers and people who live in the countryside are a very small proportion of the voting public and the Labour party has never seen much sense in supporting them. We don't call him Townie Blair for nothing. He has promoted foxes and other vermin and excluded our home grown food

i completely agree. the farmers of this nation whether it be cattle, fruit or whatever have a hard enough time surviving as it is. our produce should be brought at all times. its fresher than importing anyway. i think the foreign office and the government in general should be ashamed.

do you know what winds me up, is how easily the british allow themselves to be put in a pidgon hole and then destroyed while all els look on as though its non of there business.government strategy is to single out these pigeon
holes for destruction, and the farmer is one off them, you know the rest, cras trucks steel cole ect ect ect when you add them all together you find they amount to 2 "THEBRITISH PEOPLE" under eco warfare attack by an enemy government.

Once again I am so thankful that I no longer live in the UK.
I think that I would be on remand most of the time for being too vocal in my protestations.
It makes me want to out my head in my hands and weep.
