Not a great deal of difference between President Ahmedinejad and PM Blair. The President has been magnanimous and Blair comes up smelling of roses.
However, apart from the release of the military personnel, we can rejoice in one other thing. Bush and his government can stop huffing and puffing, unasked, on behalf of the UK for a few days!

To get the sanctions lifted that were placed against Iran, and to try to make international opinion think they are the good guys so they can cary on developing nuclear energy. Those Marines wer taken to be used as pawns in international politics.

Quite possibly because we negotiated a release in exchange for Iranian access to five Iranians captured by US forces:
"speculation is likely to continue over whether it had anything to do with developments in Iraq, where an Iranian envoy has reportedly been given access to five Iranians captured by US forces, and where a kidnapped diplomat was released on Tuesday."

He thought he'd turned the world's attention away from his nuclear program about as much as he could with this scenario, and wanted to concentrate on goading the Israelis into another war with his proxies. That will distract the world for months, not just weeks.

He was always going to. It's just macho posturing all this "Iran should do this" and "the UK have done that", etc.
