It will basicaly come down to in house/company policy, but you should also bear in mind the health/safety/hygiene/fire regulations, also general tideness/cleanliness. If you go in as a customer would, looking around at various things, i.e. are all the lights working, are there any remnants of last nights customers in the corners/under tables.... what would your opinion be if you'd just walked into a bar 5 mins after it opened and seen 2 or 3 light bulbs blown, 1 or 2 empty glasses on the floor or on a shelf? with no other customers there? it would make an initial impact on you and probably make the establishment seem bad,
That's my advice, view it as a customer rather than staff....... customers are more likely to see and notice rather than notice and not see.

alot of pubs have different standards i have been manager myself and my standards are high as the way i see it is if u have time to lean you have time to clean.
opening and closing procedures also differ as to what u have to do as an individual for example morning: make sure bar clean and tidy, nozzles on pumps, ice in bucket, lemons etc also coffee machine switched on float/ till floated and in till drawer, make sure u are staffed for the day, u have enough change for whle day, cash machine full and ready to use, if pipes need cleaning have they been done and flushed properly, shelves stocked, crisps and nuts stocked on shelves, tables set if u serve food and other general duties. closing: vice versa of opening make sure everything out away, i found that if my shelves were stocked this helped with keeping order of my stock and ordering and last but far from least make sure you have white wine chilled in fridge nothing worse than offering warm wine.
