Okay so I've been painting my nail black for the past ever and whenever i do people seemed to think I'm gothic or something. Not that I have anything against being gothic, but the nail polish seemed to scream from miles away "Look I'm Gothic!!!" which I'm not. Can someone answer this?

Thanks all who answered. See the problem is that I love rock and most people know that so they are quick to think that I turned gorthic. Yes, I do love the way black nails look. and I don't care that they want to call me gothic but it get annoying after a while, you know?
Anyways I am sort of a prep so yeah...

I love dark colors on nails :) Very sexy. My favorite is "Lincoln Park After Dark" by OPI--I wore it all this winter. You should definitely look into it if you like darker colors :)

I LOVE to wear black nail polish but the same thing happens to me , like im not emo or anything. I guess though if youu wore pink and colorful clothing it could help, I am kinda known as a prep, not by choice though i just wear a lot of pink, and carry a purse. Maybe if youu put those little gluey nail rhinestones on the corners of your nails then that would be cute. You could just give off that vibe, people like to say stupid things sometimes.

Do you live in the burbs ? Black is fine usually only small minded people are quick to jump to goth. I have an Audrey Hepburn poster up on my wall and my roommates boyfriend asked if she was goth because she had black hair. See usually just dumb people jump to that conclusion. No black nails are fine and as long as your cuticles and nail length are clean looking your manicure I am sure looks fine. Now if you start dressing like Winona rider from beetle juice h then you might be dabbling in the goth look. Enjoy black can go great with many outfits!

yes i know what you mean, i went for a deep deep red that looked black and my boyfriend said it looked gothic, but my make nor my clothes resemble a gothic appearance. Dark nail polish is really in this season and i see lots of girls painting their nails dark, so screw everyone else, do what you like!

Its actually considered quite trendy at the moment to paint your nails black. A lot of celebs have been doing it etc.
Goths do, do it too... but it doesnt mean your a goth.
Black nails look great with say a hotpink top or something bright!
Just go for it.. ignore anyone who calls you a goth!

There's nothing wrong with it. It's just associated with gots/punks/rockers.
If you dress nicely and don't fit the stereotypical punk, then there's nothing wrong.
Some people purposely let the polish chip, or use sharpie permanent markers to draw on themselves/nails. That's when it starts to look dirty and tacky.
Black is harsh color on your nails, especially if you have fair skin. So it will be very noticeable and may draw more comments than the classic pink or red polish

nothing, I do it all the time. I'm not gothic by far. I think I'm such a priss I just like the way that black nail polish looks good

I think black nail polish looks great with any outfit. Just don't wear it with all black clothing or else you will continue to get comments like "Are you gothic?".
Also, try dark plum colors instead of black.

No, there isn't something incorrect with portray you nails black. do exactly not strengthen your pinky nails large long while in comparison with you different nails b/c people will think of you're sniffing something-- lol. in line with probability you aunt thinks you're a rouge or some kind of delinquent, you recognize Punk --> Goth --> Emo...

people just like to sterotype, thats really it. it doesnt matter what color your nails are. your nail color doesnt make the person you are. i'm not gothic, i paint my nails black how ever i do listen to death metal so sometimes people think i am too, but i also paint my nails other colors. so dont worry people are going to judge and you cant to anything about it. so i say more paore to you for the black polish!!!

because people have these stereotyped generalizations ingrained in them, so automatically if someone wears black, or listens to "goth" music, or wears black polish, then they MUST be "goth" right??? jesus, that`s such a load of crap!!! i luv wearing black clothes (BUT i also wear other colors), i listen to "goth" music (BUT it`s not the only stuff i like) & i wear black polish (BUT i use other colors too), so of course, i MUST be "goth"...AHAHAHAHAHA!!! please!!! just because i display some characteristics of that stereotype DOES NOT mean that`s what i am (even tho there is NOTHING wrong with being "goth", "punk", whatever)...yeah, most people are stupid when it comes down to these kind of things!!! just let people be themselves, express themselves how they want...if they are not hurting themselves or other people, why is it such a concern for these ill-informed twits??? i wear black polish a lot, i luv it, & i choose to do it because it expresses part of my personality, & frankly i don`t give 2 s**ts what others think!!!
