If the road isn't flooded and you take extra care you should be able to drive safely.

You do need to have decent tread on your tires to be able to control the car in the wet so if you are going to be driving in the rain make sure that you replace your tires when they start to become bald.

Turning your lights on if you don't have daytime running lights (parkers would probably be enough) is often a good idea, not so much for you to be able to see (they won't help) but to make your car more visible to others on the road (so they don't crash into you).

There's also the usual stuff about not driving as fast and keeping more distance because the tires won't grip the road as well in the wet.

Oh and having your wipers on but that is kind of obvious.

During lightning a car is actually one of the safest places to be so I wouldn't worry too much about the lightning until I were getting out of the car. If you can wait to get out then it might be better to just sit in the car and wait for the lightning to stop.

If you have to get out try to stay away from trees in the middle of lightning.

The size of car isn't really going to make a difference in terms of the danger from lightning.
