While the previous answers may be correct, they miss the point of the neuron. If all it does is pass a signal, then it's a nerve. The neuron takes signals or conditions from several inputs and fires or doesn't fire, based on its history and the history of its inputs. That's where the thinking happens. The nerve is just a wire to carry the result of the computation to where it is used.
