Iran will release the British captives for an "Easter gift" to the UK. Ahmadinajhad has stated that in spirit of the prophet's birthday (March 30) and the passing of Christ, they would be returned to Britain. Now, I know he is crazy , as well as I know that the Iranians think that Bush is crazy. IS this a step in the right direction? I was a bit shocked that he referred to Jesus as 'Christ" a show of compassion for the Christian faith. So, what do you think? Did the UK trespass in Iranian waters? And if so, does this show that people are capable of compassion? What do you think?

Noam, I NEVER eamiled you, I respponded to many emails that you wrote to me. I don;t find you interesting enough to proactively email you. I just thought (AT first) that you wanted to have an intelligent debate. Instead, you made all types of assumptions about my character! So, game over. I will no longer speak with you as I don;t care for ridiculous self serving insults. Good day

And when I spoke of him calling Jesus 'christ' I am pretty sure that is how I feel, so how is it erroneous? Perhaps you are confusing 'disagreement' with 'erroneous'.

I think the Iranians found that they got in too deep and needed to get out of a volatile situation and put a positive spin on it at the same time. Kudos to their spin doctor.

He was brilliant, he flexed the power of Iran, showed that they are not barbarians, thumbed his nose at the west, didn't cause any deaths, didn't insult any religious group and ended the situation with everyone saving face. He will get incredible mileage out of this in the propaganda market. In the end Iran is painted as willing to defend what is there's but are civilized, compassionate and understanding. whether they were in Iranian or Iraqi waters is immaterial, they're going to be released and that's what's important.
My compliments to the Brits for having cool heads and showing the power of diplomacy.

I guess I feel the same way I'd feel if I had been around 80 years ago and the KKK decided to let a black person go rather than lynch him - grateful that murderous and insane people managed to show some humanity, for whatever reason.
What will the future hold? No one knows. We can only hope.

I agree inclusive of your evaluation, yet i imagine it is going a lot deeper than that: i have self assurance Iran wanted to demonstrate its capacity, disillusioned alot of folk, then educate its "mercy" by technique of letting those "in charge" infantrymen pass. it really is all about manipulation and displaying us who's extremely the "boss" in the middle east. It became no longer some thing more advantageous (or a lot less) than a cat capturing a mouse, torturing it, then letting it pass merely so the mouse would properly be greatful to have escaped the ferocious cat. in short, it became an ego difficulty to placed its adversaries of their "position."

Bush did trespass the IRAQI waters!!! Don't you remember? Did the British really trespass the Iranian waters, I don't know. I would not be surprised though. When hasn't GWB done as he pleased, without asking or consulting with anyone?
The Iranian president was trying to make a point, as is Bush.
I can be a stubborn a--hole too! Maybe he was just pretending to be?
He knew when to stop the madness, but Bush has not!

Why was there any doubt that Iranians are compassionate people? Because the media told you they where not? Did they not treat the captives at every point with dignity and respect?
Can the same be said of America and its captives? No so who is without compassion.
Did the Iranians treat them like pieces of meat stripping them naked, attacking them with dogs, putting dog collars on grown men and making them simulate sex acts, throwing the bible in the toilet, letting men urinate themselves, taking pictures of them in degrading poses?
No. That would be the Americans.
My question is why are people so quick to judge others who have done nothing wrong and so easily forget there own crimes in there back yard?
Muslims love and respect Jesus and calling him Christ is to respect those who believe he is Christ. I'm a Muslim i love Jesus.
OK if you dont feel i answered let me clarify :
Yes it is a step in the right direction.
Yes the UK trespassed in Iranian waters.
Yes it shows people are capable of compassion.
That is what i think!
Better? Thanks and i appreciated your question :)
Peace to you.

Muslims believe Jesus was the 'Christ', (but not God) the Jewish Messiah and that he was not crucified, but taken into heaven.
I am not surprised by your lack of knowledge. Stop emailing me.
This is not a step in the right direction, this is a publicity stunt. I believe the UK states the sailors and marines were in Iraqi waters. Though, the border between Iraq and Iran in the Shatt Al Arab Waterway isn't demarcated very well, so both sides could be right. Either way, it is a bit much to try someone for trespass.
Edit: You DID email me, I emailed you also, I did not insult you by email no more than you insulted me. Also, I had to respond to your erroneous assumption that Ahmadinajhad "referred to Jesus as 'Christ" a show of compassion for the Christian faith" when Muslims would refer to him as Christ... I find these erroneous sentences all the time in your questions and answers and I think you're a paid propagandist.

We'll never know the truth of the trespass. It's a he said, she said situation. I do see it as a step in the right direction, but if you listened carefully over the din of the neohawks Iran has been saying conciliatory things all along. Bush and the hysterical right has chosen to ignore them with the anti-diplomacy mindset.
