Hello All,

I have a problem with my computer that has plagued me for the last few months, I hope you can help. The most helpful answer gets the points.

I am running Windows Xp Sp2 (borrowed) on approx 3.5 to 4 ghz Pentium chip.
Whenever I perform the following tasks, my computer stops and shuts down (separate occasions, not all at once):

- watching youtube videos (or any videos online) consecutively in a row (4-5 videos max)
- running a virus scan on my entire computer
- ripping dvds
- multiple (on hd) videos playing at once using different video players
- using an external usb device (midi keyboard) to make beats on Reason 3

After the first shut down, I will attempt to start up again, upon which the computer shuts down almost automatically (during the start up screen). Just before the 2nd shutdown, a black screen shows stating “We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start up properly…” I select to have windows start normally only to have it shut down

This is very frustrating to say the least. I recently upgraded the ram in my computer to 2 – 1 gig sticks. The virtual memory is something that I have not mastered, yet. Should I have set as system allocated? I have two large udma hard drives in my comp (about 250 & 300 gigs each) Should both drives have an allocated amount for virtual memory? I heard that this can slow things down? Is it possible that the problem stems from a virus? Could the problem be electromechanical (ie. a faulty diode, transistor, etc)? Please steer me in the right direction and I can always tailor my question. Thanks

The ram I have added are the exact same sticks, both by Kingston @ 3200 (even the same stock # @ Frys)

well i am no expert but you said you just upgraded your ram to 2 1gig sticks. how much did you have before? did you just add another stick? the reason i ask this is because if you didn't get the same speed stick that could cause you computer to shut down. a friend of mind had this problem because he did the same thing he had a 1 gig 2700 ddr stick and added a 1 gig 3200 ddr stick. once he took the stick of ram out it worked fine and when he got another 3200 stick then both worked. so that might be your problem

the final rule right this is if this occurs randomly, that's in all probability a hardware project. If this occurs continuously that's in all probability application. in case you have put in application those days, that's advisable to attempt 'gadget restoration' to bypass back to a time whilst it replaced into working. If the computer may be overheating you will get carry of application to examine the CPU and board temperature. those shouldn't exceed 70 ranges c or 50 ranges C respectively. you additionally can decide to look interior and see how dusty that's as this stops air circulating suited.

It is clear that there is a problem with your drives. You may need someone to help you. I amean an administrator. Either there is something missing in your drive or it is rusted. This problem is not normal, but it can be solved easily. Good Luck!

Your PC might be overheating. My friend solved this problem by replacing the processor fan with a CPU fan, you have to do a little adjusting to compensate for the size, but my friend swears he never had the same problem again.
