In January they thought I had an ectopic based on an US (I would only have been 5-6 weeks) and pain during a pevic exam, sent me to the hospital they only did some blood work for HCG. It came back at 4 I think (we had it at 30 previously). Meaning not pregnant any more. The OB/GYN on call said I had a cyst and wasnt pregnant at all. Boy were we confused. Of course they were wrong as I had another US which they claim to show nothing. My GP agrees it wasnt a cyst. Not to mention that the only cysts that produce HCG produce it at a high level and it is sustained there. I never went above 30. Anyways, I am wondering if it was ectopic could it have resolved on its own and would that cause more scar tissue in the tube. I am in the same boat again today. I have to go for another US today to check for ectopic and I want to be more prepared so that I can call the doctor on their diagnosis if it doesnt sound right.

Ectopic pregnancy means the egg has planted itself outside of the uterus. More than 95% of time in the fallopia tubes. As the fetus grows it will eventually burst the organ that contains it. This will cause severe bleeding and endanger the mother's life. It never develops into a live birth. You can get an injection of methotrexate which allows the egg to dissolve and the body to absorb it. However, if you are further along surgery is most likely your only option.

from what i have read on ectopic pregnancies, they dont resolve themselves. They have to be removed or the womens tube could burst. I hope that makes sence. Good Luck with your US today

An ectopic pregnancy can cause the same scarring as a cyst. If the embryo died (which often happens), then your body may have reabsorbed it. The body can do the same thing with a cyst.

It is possible that it resolved itself. Some may even break loose and implant in the uterus and carry on like a normal pregnancy.

There are certain cysts and tumors that give a false positive. I was reading the insert to an EPT test on Sunday morning which explained that.

Wikipedia explains it as well:

I have had several m/c and I believe that you had what is called a missed abortion. where the baby was never supposed to be concieved or at least the mother wasnt supposed to know that this had happened at all. You also can form a womb with no baby and produce hcg and progestrone levels. I am sorry for your loss.

I have never heard of this happening before. It's probably best to ask the doctor.
