I have PCOS and have the weight gain, the imbalanced hormones, the borderline diabetes. I went on Metformin for two weeks, and lost 10 pounds and had a normal cycle. I did my ovulation kits this week and have already detected my LH surge. The important thing is to try to treat your symptoms. For me, it was a weight thing so I have changed my diet and am exercising more. It's a condition that you have to live with but it can change.

I do not have PCOS, but my 22 year old daughter was just officially diagnosed with it last week. She is still living at home and has no insurance, so I've been closely involved with everything she is going through. It is actually an unusual story about the diagnosis. In February, she went in for an ingrown toenail that needed removal. The doctor who removed the toenail noticed a mole on her neck that he recommended be removed. Another doctor removed three moles and while looking to see if any others needed removal, casually asked my daughter if she had ever been tested for PCOS. She had never heard of it. The doctor said it can cause unusual hair growth, which my daughter has. You can have trouble losing weight, which my daughter has. You can experience male-pattern balding, which my daughter has. You have irregular or absence of periods, which my daughter has always had. She went in for blood work-up. The first test to come back was an elevated fasting blood glucose number, 118. Glucose resistance is a symptom of PCOS. Then her other tests all came back and they all indicated PCOS. She is currently trying Metformin for the glucose resistance, but it is really messing with her stomach, so she is trying 1/2 a pill for a while. She is also going to be taking Ortho Tri Cyclen to balance out the high testesterone levels and hopefully regulate her periods. She had an ultrasound done on her ovaries which show that both have cysts on them. Another thing she may have to deal with in the future is infertility, but right now she has no plans on starting a family soon. While it has nothing to do with PCOS, 2 of her moles showed pre-cancerous cells so she had to have further skin excised for testing. We have Melanoma in our family, so we are worried about that as well. Right now my daughter is angry that she has all of these things, but we are working through it.

Yes, I found out when I was seventeen. If you have it you more than likely rarely ever have a period and chances are even when you do you didn't ovulate. You may also have some excess hair on face, arms, or belly. Another problem is acne. Especially around jaw bone and chin. One more thing that usually accompanies PCOS is insulin resistance. Birth control, sprirolactone and metformin help with all of these symptoms. Good luck! I hope you find out the truth.

I've got PCOS mildly. Have you had an internal scan? I think thats the only definite way to know for sure, because it's to do with the amount of follacles on your ovaries. Because I only have it mildly, the only symptom I have is very irregular periods, but I know some people who have problems with weight gain, acne and mood swings. Because of irregular periods it can take a while to concieve, but my doctor told me he has patients who only have 3 periods a year due to PCOS and have no problems concieving! so different people will have different symptoms

I have been diagnosed with PCOS. You may just have a mild case. I personally hate having it because I cant get pregnant with out taking a fertility drug. It also makes my period all out of wack and it makes me have acne. I think you need to ask yourself if you trust the doctor that said you have it. If you still aren't sure you could get a second opinion.

I was told pretty much the same thing. I was told by one that I had a severe case, the other said a mild case.
Here are my symptoms.
I can get pregnant, my periods are irregular. I will have my period and bleed terribly with harsh cramps, then I stop for a week and then I starting spotting until it all starts over again. I have to pluck hair off my neck and some on my boobs. I can't loose weight. I am depressed/
Does this sound like anything that you have?

Treatment for PCOS is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.

They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment; IUI surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps
