This situation is very complex because its a case of propaganda on both sides. I see no reason why the Iranians would risk war by going into Iraqi waters to take the sailors, therefore I would say they were in fact in Iranian waters.
That having been said I do believe they were told to say they were in Iranian waters, and the whole attitude of the Iranian primeminister tells me its all a ploy to defame the british government.

Iran has kidnapped over 1,000 people since the Islamic Revolution.
What evidence is there that this was not just another one of the many kidnappings they have perpetrated? None. Therefore, the British sailors will not stick with that story unless they are told to keep quiet by their short-sighted government in the name of "peace in our time."

Actually it was so close there would be no way to know for sure where this took place. Luckily it worked out for the best. They're being released and noone was hurt. I had a feeling if everyone just backed off the Iranian government would do the right thing in their own time.

No, because they already have shown that they were in iraqi waters.
They British released a picture that has a crew member of a helicopter holding a gps in front of the camera while he is looking down at the ship. the coordinates are well within iraqi waters.

British troops are told to do whatever it takes in order to hasten their and their comrades rescue, so said another soldier who was held hostage by the Iranians (I forget who) - if that means falsely admitting that they were in Iranian waters then that's what they'd do. It doesn't mean that they actually did it, nor does it necesarily mean that the Iranians 'coerced' them into admitting it.

I wouldnt be surprised if they defected to Iran.
What with the way they were fed and such. Plus they let them smoke & wear a head scarf.
If they do change their story it will be because the British threaten them and their families with decapitation or dismemberment.

I think they will, because it may be what is keeping them alive. It is OK for them to say things that they really don't believe to stay alive. The rest of the world knows what is going on, so the admission doesn't really mean anything.

Once they're free, they will repudiate what they said under duress. They were NOT in Iranian waters, and those habitual hostage-takers know that full well.

No way. Why would they when they're safely in U.K. territory? The Iranian claims are inconsistent and shady.

I suspect that they were saying that to appease their captors and avoid harsher treatment. Their story will reveal the truth once they are freed.
