There have been cases when people have tried to get rid of a harmless "soul" , only to turn it into a full blown poltergeist. Which are much harder and more dangerous to shift. And trying to move one harmless spirit could wake something else up. So if doors open on there own, or unexplained footsteps walk the hall. As long as its doing no harm, neither should you.
Some sense ghosts as temperature change warm or cold depending on the person or spirit. Children and some animals have been known to be sensitive

There are many non-psychics who help Spirits pass on, but they still have the ability needed to sense them and feel them- and their intentions. There is no such thing as a non-psychic person. Everyone has abilities dormant within them that only need to be awakened to see everything with unearthly eyes. However, if you want to help a Spirit, then you cannot help it without knowing it's there and what it wants. Do you see what I mean? You cannot help something if you don't know what it wants therefore if you can't commune with it then you can't help it. It's unfortunate, but that is how it is.
All you can do for misguided or unyeilding Spirits is to please them- this may give them a sense of happiness needed to ascend to heaven. You can burn certain insence, chime certain bells, burn candles in some formations, and urge them that they have found earthly happiness. Just because you cannot hear or see them, it doesn't mean they can't feel our world or hear and see us and what we do! You can write poetry/verse/anything and put it up near a candle or mirror which will help the Spirits to realise that their physical life has ended, and that it's still beautiful- so beautiful that they cannot be perceived by mortal vanity tools such as the mirror.
There are many things science cannot explain, which we can then assume are the works of Spirits, Angels, or Fey. They can interfere with energies around us producing a sudden heat or coldness, loss or surge of electricity, random kinetic movement- like moving things or doors inexplicably, or a sound whereby there is nothing there to produce that sound. You cannot measure paranormal activity- nor is there such a thing as an instrument that will measure amounts of 'psychic' energy. The only thing perceptive to that type of energy is a living thing- something biological. Even plants have been known to react unexplainably in places deemed to be 'haunted'.

The feelings that can be perceived from a ghost are very real indeed, they can move you to tears or literally make you run.
