I don't know. I think it can go either way to be honest. If you are depressed, you might turn to drugs to try and help escape from the depression. But on the other hand, using the drug and having to deal with all the side effects (mental, physical, social, etc) can then cause the individual to become depressed. So, I suppose it depends on the the individual case.

Above answers are great. I think there are several factors in starting to drink--1) to self-medicate depression, underlying rage, powerlessness and loneliness, and fun; 2) one's own chemical make-up; 3) peer and social surroundings. The route that a depressed person uses, depends upon h/her childhood environment, training, habits and chemistry. I drank to medicate the depression and anxiety until later in life, I was Dx'd with those and put on medication!! AMAZING how much easier life became for me. I could make rational deciscions; evaluate the results and then modify or continue with the satisfactory outcome. (Why has my spell check disappeared here???) The depressed person without drug use, can often resort to suicide; self-mutilation, crime for thrills; etc. We humans have an incredible number of choices to deal with excessive degrees of affect!!!

alot more than depression would cause me to become addicted to street drugs. It would take maybe a lifetime of pain and suffering where my soul was put through hell and i didnt know how to get out of it but to have instint gratification. It is sad to see kids addicted to drugs but you can thank societys values for that

Marijuana would not result dopamine stages. Me and tens of millions of alternative persons have on no account experienced any kind of melancholy from marijuana use. you're likely be bothered by some kind of melancholy even without employing marijuana. And at times marijuana can improve this because of the fact which you think of alot while your stoned. In some states the place they legalized marijuana for scientific purposes, docs advise marijuana for melancholy. although that's cautioned that they use indica lines rather of sativa lines because of the fact indicas have a more suitable proportion of CBD it is an anti psychotic.
