If the west, and America in particular is in a global conflict with inslamic fascist, what is the cause of this conflict?
If you feel that American policy (not persons) has aggrivated the world of islam against us, please identify what policies or actions have prompted this reaction.
If you feel that islamic fascist have brought this conflict to the west, what policies and/or actions can you list that have prompted the west to take an offensive stance against them.
Please go beyond 9/11 (not to minimize that act) and try to share the underlying reasoning.
For those of you that feel compelled to take this as another opportunity to express mindless hate for Bush or any in his administration, go ahead. We've seen it all already so one more won't make a difference.
For those of you that can't resist this as an opportunity to attack the asker, his intelligence or character. Go ahead.
Such answers reflect more against you than anything else.

Jacob: No, I most definately do not think I am just a spectator in this conflict. You may be surprised to know what my fundamental beliefs are in this arena as well.
There is so much hate expressed on this board that it is sometimes alarming. The hate expressed demonstrates an underlying polarizaton in America that is, in my view, very dangerous.
The question is worded as it is in an effort to address the real causes of the conflict, the morality of our offensive stance if you will.
If the true cause is islamic fascist justification of terrorism on moral grounds against "everyone else", how can it be moral for the US to withdraw from this confrontation (globally and within Iraq) with any reasonable expectation that the problem will go away?
No, the attack on the twin towers was a huge STRATEGIC mistake on the part of the islamic fascist ONLY IF we as Americans recognize that there is a moral reason for our military presence in Iraq and elsewhere in the world.

Usually when you want to know the source of any conflict between two people or groups, don't you take a step back and consider whether one of those people or groups is in conflict with not only the other but almost everyone else?
Come on, don't you all do this? Betty and Steve work together and hate each other. They're having an argument. You just walked in, you don't know anything about this argument. But you DO know that Betty is constantly arguing with and badmouthing everyone while Steve gets along reasonably well with most people - so you assume the problem is, again, Betty.
The West isn't blowing up subways around the world, firebombing 2000 year old Buddha statues, killing people around the world. We have our issues with other countries but nobody's blowing anyone or anything up.
This is not so of radical Islam's relationship with the rest of the world, is it?
And radical Islam's relationship with the rest of the world has always been violent, hasn't it?
Doesn't that tell you a lot?
Example:
Southern India is largely Hindu. Do you know why Northern India went from being Buddhist to being largely Muslim?
It's not because people gradually shifted tastes, the way we shifted tastes from Big Band to Bebop to Rock and Roll.
It would be nice and more pleasant to think that.
But it's not true.
The reason is that the Muslims came from nearby areas and killed all the Buddhists.

well 9/11 was'nt the beginning of this 'conflict'
USS cole back in '94? (or maybe '96)
other attempted bombings (foiled) of WTC and UN building in early 90's
The reality is fundamentalism is the source of most of this. And fundamental Islamics (to be noted NOT all Islamics, just fundamentalists) are the source of those actions b/c they see the ideals of the West as inherently corrupt and against the Will of Allah.
it's their version of the Crusades in a sense.
And the Fundies of western religion are trying to answer the call, so once again it's Religion and the differences in opinion of Religion and how people should live etc..in the name of their that I believe is the source of most of this (global) conflict.
This is more a war of religion then anything else, sure we bombed Iraq but c'mon that had little to do w/ terrorism and more to do w/ Exxon Mobile dropping in a few oil derricks in a country other then Saudi Arabia so that the Oil Barrens can get rich while we pay 3-5 dollars/gal. at the pump then anything else.
But to the 'war on terror' which is something totally separate, (despite what the media portrays) and is fought on more fronts then just Baghdad, that is a Religious war, and one that will impact everyone a lot more then the 'war for oil (Iraq)'
Why do you feel that you would be attacked for your question?. Your question is very unbiased and just asks.."Why (well what)"...

Let me see, how can I put this simply? The Islamic Fascists want to kill everyone who will not submit to their medieval concept of Islam. In other words, you will submit to them or they will kill you. That includes atheists, agnostics, Christians, Jews, moderate Muslims, Pagans and any other belief or lack of belief other than their own.
So the question is not how did we offend these people because our very existence is an offense to them.
Strange way to state this question: "If you feel that Islamic fascist have brought this conflict to the west, what policies and/or actions can you list that have prompted the west to take an offensive stance against them". If I FEEL that they brought this conflict to the west...? I KNOW they brought this conflict to Lower Manhattan on 9/11/01.
..take an offensive stance against them...? Look pal, all you need concern yourself with is this simple quote:
"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good me to do nothing." -Sir Edmund Hillary
I don't like to attack the person asking the question but what is one to make of the way you ask it? Do you believe you are only a spectator at some event that does not involve you? Trust this, it involves you and everyone else whether they want it to or not. Read the attachment

The western life style with all the new technologies is terribly offensive to the Islamic way of life. The freedoms that the modern day women have in Western countries puts a lot of pressure on the Muslim men who prefer to keep their relationship with Muslim women under their control. In order for the Islamists to maintain their status quo over their way of life they must remove any of the influences of Western culture. Greedy people on both sides of the issue couldn't care less about moral issues or values of either culture but just look at opportunities to make more money. So the radical Islamists take advantage of situations to hurt the Western world whenever they can and of course we (the Infidels) don't take kindly to being attacked so we retaliate and it goes on and on. There also is this deep hatred by the Islamists for the Jews, who we support and I don't understand all the history behind that or why their hatred is so deep, even for different sects of their own religion. I have many more thoughts on the subject but this should be enough to answer your question.

Resources, just like any major conflict. Islamic radicals want to control the globe and so does America. Read about the American half in the Project for a New American Century:

It's the whole reason America is in Iraq, the neoconservative agenda was to literally dominate the global economy by use of military force. The whole religious/cultural difference just makes it worse.

America has stood for individuality and freedom.
although we've had the basic ideas for a free society that has both the right to have religion and the right to not have religion- we've never really practiced it to its full degree
many islamic nations practice theocracy to its fullest degree- even the americans who support religiously-based facism find this to be wrong. sometimes its not the facism its self that causes the issues but the religion which the facism focuses on.
america has also been loyal to the idea of capitalism. true religous fundementalists will not trade with those who disagree with them and they view as immoral.
we have never understood nor accepted people not trading. we put such an emphasis on trading that embargos are the first thing we use to threaten those who anger us.
as stated before there is much hyporacy when it comes to religious fascism. but people (americans) who support only mil forms of fascism/fascist policies are outraged when they hear of full blown r/f (relgious fascism).
people also don't want to admit that they too sympathize and agree with imposing religion on people and removing rights that contridict religous dogma- so they distance themselves, attack, and try to rationalize how other r/f are bad (and there's is not or they fully deny their fascist tenednecies)

I believe that the source is the fear of those muslims that they are being relegated to second class existence. They see the west as the reason, rather than the lobotomization they are subjected to.
They see everything west as being a threat to their beliefs. So rather than understand and adapt the western values and items to fit them, they destroy.
Lack of effort, "bad" leadership, limited personal freedoms are what I see as a limited set of the reasons.
No one was forcing them to buy western goods and values.

See why they are mad at us in their own words. Watch the movie Obsession. I don't think American policy offends them as much as the filthy porn and Hollywood portrays women. They think women should barely be seen and never heard from. And we shove make out sessions with Ron Jeremy down their thoat to make a dollar.

Simply put,it's religion.
Do you honestly believe that we would have this conflict between Christian nations and Muslim nations if there was no religion?
Or between Israel and the Palestinians?
Theist religion is at the root of all this stupidity.

i feel the source of conflict comes from the extremists hating everything western...and then feeling the way to settling things is by flying planes into our buildings, blowing up embassies, driving boats into our ships, and strapping bombs to their chests and blowing themselves up in an attempt to take as many civilians with them as possible....all in Allahs name...personally...i think conflict arises because of this
