The exhaust fan is always ceiling-mounted and pulls the stink right up past your nose thus limiting your reading time. Some one should invent something like the exhaust they have on Jenn-aire stoves, except for a bathroom...just a question...all the other world crisis are solved...

I can guess that it wouldn't be terribly effective. The gases that are released in a bathroom are lightweight. They float up and mix into the air readily.
If you look at downdraft exhausts that are used for cooking, the experts will tell you that they are only partly effective because they can't catch all the smoke/steam that is released during cooking.
But it's an interesting observation...:)
