That's quoting that right-wing fundie/conservative president of Iran. Isn't that something you would expect to hear from the religious right in America?

He said this in response to the fact that one of the hostages they had was a woman and a mother. Liberal western countries (like the U.S. and Great Britain) believe women are our equal and deserve equal rights. Conservative religious countries do not. They believe a women's place is in the kitchen and at home taking care of children.

People forget, but it was the religious right in America and their conservative interpretation of the Bible that was the biggest obstacle to women's rights in this country. The religious right's hate for feminists did not start yesterday.

This quote is just another example of how backward conservatives are, regardless of their nationality. The only real difference between America's and Iran's conservatives, is that America's conservatives are more LIBERAL then their Iranian counterparts.

There is a difference between family values and employment. The Sailor would like to feed, cloth, and house her kid(s) I believe this is family values. Being pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen does nothing for the children if there is no food, cloths or kitchen. Let the sailor do as she pleases to raise her family.

My answer to that is that she knew what she was getting into when she joined up. It was her decision and thank God she has the choice. In no way should because she has a child have any bearing on her deployment. Men are deployed all the time and they have families. Iran is way to backwards and bless the MEN AND WOMEN who choose to go over and fight this war to keep us with rights - EVERY LAST ONE OF US!!!

I see very little difference between the fundies here and the fundies there. They both scare me when they take issue with each other. Those kinds of things lead fanatics on both sides to start wars. Iraq and the "war" on terror case in point.

I totally agree with you. This is actually quite interesting. It sort of reminds me of a magazine article I once read that featured Karen Armstrong, a former nun from England who writes about various religions. She actually mentioned in the article that if George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden didn't have so many differences in their religious views, they would actually find that they have a lot in common. The Christian fundamentalists and the Muslim fundamentalists actually have more similarities than differences.
