Grammatically, do these two phrases have the same meaning? I usually hear people use the first and mean the second, but I don't think they are correct. Here's how I understand this:
-Phrase 1: None of the things is equal to any other thing.
-Phrase 2: Some of the things are equal to some other things, and some of the things are not.

Opinions?

Evolution consists of more than two mechanisms. To view in the context you've proposed, evolution must be seen as this: The continual refinement of organic life toward an optimal state of adaptation to a given environment. The refinement is achieved by mutation and natural selection, but it is bamboozled by the changing environment, so that no 'optimal state' can ever be achieved. The earth periodically kills everything and what survives has new protections and advantages. Since evolution is a fairly heavy, complicated concept and seems to have come about on its own, it is not irrational to presume it was an idea or experiment with an intended purpose and result. If God did create evolution then yes, we can clearly see He is indifferent, and indiscriminate. His purpose is gigantic, and his playing-field is complicated. He has shown us that we will survive if we follow specific rules. But, human beings have superimposed their own laws and rules over nature now using the device of civilization. So, yes, God is a cruel God. We are a means to His end, nothing more. World religions maintain there is something more than this. They think we can be something much greater than a means to an end, and there may be truth in this.

Well lets try the first one
All things are not created wqual. just might mean of any of a type are not equal to each other.

not all things are created equal as in that all the different things are not equal to each other. In one thing some may be equal to one another but not another thing.

Both in a way just as you said.

Most would not even bother with the difference.

I often hear that we all are created equal and that is totaly not true.

The first phrase is inclusive. The second phrase has limits.
