It all depends. I would only buy the basics like toothpaste or dog food at WalMart or Kmart. But Target I'd buy everything from watermelons to window treatments. I just adore TARGET. Even had better luck with the clothes I bought there than the Gap.

I agree to some degree with this statement although some things you just have to purchase at a regular store.
I enjoy shopping at discount stores, not only do they have name brand items at less cost, but they also offer items that some of the mainstream department stores never get. So you get a greater variety at a discount store.
And as long as you CHECK the expiration date before purchasing perishable items at discount stores, you're fine. Just because it is sold at a discount store does not necessarily mean it is expired. You would check the dates on food in the grocery store wouldn't you? And again, the good thing about buying from a discount store is that you'll come across items you haven't seen in your regular grocery store.
My personal favorite discount stores are Big Lots and (even though I have only been there once) Ollie's. I'm putting their links below along with some other discount/dollar stores. Dollar General is another good store but I couldn't access their link.
Oh! and LOL! I just read Nianques comments above me...he sounds very sweet and loving toward his family, but I gotta tell you...If my husband ever told me he wasn't going to "let" me do something, he'd end up missing a leg! lol!

Generally no. While many discount stores will save you money, the average shopper enters the discount store without a plan. They end up seeing all the great bargains, but things, they really do not need and then overspend. Don't believe me, then ask yourself if you have financial issues? If you do, then how many times have you walked into Walmart with a list and purchased only those items. Sure you needed those basic necessities. Also, people will drive 10 miles to save $4. So if your car is costing you 30c per mile to operate you saved $1. Maybe not worth the time.

I would say yes for namebrand Items that can be found at full price stores, i.e. its the same product its just at that store and cheaper. Other stuff it seems like you get what you pay for a fair amount of time. It doesn't hurt to do some research and find reviews for an item that costs more, i.e. a new tv or the likes.

I'm a penny-pinching accountant and I don't let my wife shop at discount stores. Including Wal-Mart. We also don't use cupons.
You don't save much if any money and the quality isn't worth it. We buy quality goods and we pay full price. My wife's worth it and my kids don't deserve to be raised at half-price.

Agree if you are looking for a case of Mountain Dew Code Red, and cheaply made goods.

yes an dno, like party supplies and cheap household items you get a great bargain. But dont buy toothpste or any food at stores like that. they are past their expiration date. after a while it goes bad. like expired tothpaste, something happens in the flouride and its bad to brush your teeth with it.

For some things, yes. I wouldn't buy an evening dress in one, but I would buy a roll of paper towels there.
