Those sailors really made a disgusting spectacle of themselves by "confessing" so quickly. It seems to me that they should stand trial and if found guilty executed.

To mnwoman - It seems to me that if they are defending their country, then they should have shown more backbone and, if necessary, to put up with being tortured to death than make these utterly revolting confessions. Their weakness is despicable and puts the entire nation to shame.

Mcdouche - I have served, with honour, and was held as a POW. I put up with starvation and torture and it never occurred to me to shame my country and my family by 'confessing' so that I could enjoy a meal and giggles with my mates.

You're more than a little extreme, aren't you? what about settling for a dishonorable discharge (although that wouldn't be popular, either)... these sailors proved that they are very immature and untrained, beyond belief. Who takes the blame for that? ...and God knows what these sailors told them, since they were doing presentations on video and laughing/giggling like they were in High School detention -- instead of the country funding/leading death-terrorism inside of neighboring Iraq (which they were THERE to defend, in the first place from Iran based criminals/pirates). I am embarassed for GB, and for this generation - this was a serious event by Iran that's now a happy-faced farce.

When it comes to military matters perhaps it is better not to pretend we know what is going on. It is impossible to know what has happened because all we have to go on is what the press feeds us.

These sailors were young, and immature. If they had not confessed would they have been released? We don't know.
All the Iranian government wanted to do was embarrass the British. They succeeded as soon as the sailors confessed. If we react as if this is a crime then Iran has won more than just embarrassing Britain. We need to stand together and support each other. Yes, the sailors confessed. Is this the end of the free world? I don't think it is. Can we forgive these young men for not dying at the hands of their captures? I hope so, for as a mother of sons, I would rather they confess then be murdered.

Anyone can say anything and not mean it, so was this confession real or not? There was no harm to British national security, therefore there is no need for a trial. If the sailors had given away military secrets then of course they would be tried for treason.

Only when the national security of a nation is threatened is there treason, not when some young, scared sailors cop a plea so that they can go home.

Eh excuse me people, what exactly did they confess to ?? they confessed to a LIE told to them by the Iranian's The young officer said "According to their coordinates" I did not hear him say "OUR coordinates" he just carefully worded let the Iranians think he agreed with them knowing full well whats true. Hey if it gets them home, who cares if they "agree" to an Iranian Lie, they can tell us the truth when they get home, and they will most certainly say, we were finishing an Inspection of an Indian ship in IRAQI waters and they forced us at gun point into Iranian Waters, end of story, all this speculating and adding on crap is not going to prove anything. AND I did not hear all 15 say "I confess to being illegally in Iranian waters" So I think this question is stupid.

get serious --- they were involved with reality. There have been
other captures and other situations, those sailors were in
harms way and serve with honor....

you might say thank-you, and/or try donning the uniform and
showing all how it should be done

Put yourself in their shoes! How do you know what they went thru while they were held? We dont know what happened to them. I think they confessed as you put it under extreme duress. If you were any kind of decent person you would be happy they were released instead of tried and executed.

What if they really did cross into Iranian waters?
