It is 3.0 x 10^8 m/s, or 300000000 m/s. In imperial units it is 186 000 miles a second.

In the vacuum or in air
c= 310^8m/s

in a refractive medium of coefficient n

The speed v = c/n

ex water n = 4/3 the speed is 3 10^8/(4/3) =2.2510^8m/s

it's as above, but the correct way is to use S.I units...so metres per second as opposed to any imperial units

the reason why we use S.I units, is so that the international scientific community all use the same units to avoid conversions..and not all countries work with imperial units no more
