Pizza was usually better than the home town pizzas in the towns where there were stores. Sing-a-long music, pitchers of beer, and old time movies were part of the atmosphere. The name and restaurants are still alive but original owners are long gone since 1967. Read the whole story below:

I remember one in Houston back in the 70s. It was on Westheimer near the Galleria. We used to go there the summer I graduated high school because they served beer and didn't card. I remember the pizza as being really thin crust, like Pizza Inn does.

Not sure where you are located - but there is one at Grossmont Center - in San Diego,CA
My younger cousin worked there and I went to visit her. Let's just say the kids are not there for the food. This Shakeys had a play area for the kids - think of a mini Chuck E Cheese. After my cousin quit I never went back.

Wow, I hadn't thought about Shakey's in years! We had one in Oroville, CA and we went there quite a bit when I was a kid in the 70's. I don't remember anything about the pizza either, but they had yummy hot sandwiches :)

I do. They were all over southern Calif. I think the pizza was O.K., but mainly it was a fun place to go. I haven't seen or heard of one in years. How about Ferrell's ice cream parlors? They were around about the same time. They were great for kids birthday parties.

They are still around in a few locations. The all you can eat lunch is gone but they have it in the evenings sometimes. The do have a decent salad bar and the pizza is still pretty good.

Yeah, and they had a booth where you could watch them make your pizza! I haven't seen a Shakey's Pizza around for years.
