Open up the folder of the files you want to save then open up your external hard drive folder by going to my computer and select the files you want and drag and drop it onto your external hard drive.

if you are storing data efficiently which seems unlikely if you have filled a 2TB drive as a private individual, you need to set up a raid server to store your files, a large tape drive would be secure since writing 500 dvds as backup is not a realistic option, you will then be going into commercial territory where prices are much higher, check your sector and cluster sizes as you may find as much as a third of the space on your apparently full drive is wasted

Couple of ways to do this.
1) Xcopy will copy all the files you wish and preserve the folder structure for you.
2) Ghost will do a complete copy of the hard drive and included the boot system files.
It really depends on what you want to save and throw away really and only you know that answer.

I also recommend True Image. If you want to be able to restore all your data in case of system or hardware crash, True Image is the best solution.

well if you transfered ALL of your files your computer would install just as slow, because you are transfering virus's and spyware that was on your comp with it. I recomend gathering all of your pics,music,docs,ect. highlight them all and drag them on to the ext. drive in mycomputer. good luck email me for any questions. :-D
