No way to tell. My water broke and labor had to be induced. You do need to go to the hospital, because the risk of infection increases once your water has broken.
Good luck Mom!!!

Go back to bed and try to rest if you can. Your contractions may or may not start by morning. If you sleep, great, you have a big day ahead of you. If not, don't be worrying, you will be fine.
If contractions haven't started by the late afternoon, you will probably be given some help to get them started. As, these days, it's not recommended to go more that 24hrs after waters have broken, due to risk of infection. Once the protective (amniotic/fluid) sac is broken around the baby, there is a higher risk of infection. The more fluid escapes, and the more time goes by, the higher the risk.
But at the moment there is certainly no rush, so be kind to yourself, your body, and your bub and try to relax. I know that's easy to say, as you must be soooo excited. Best of luck to you and your new little person, and congratulations.

If your water has broken it is important for you to go to the doctor immediately. You can step up an infection or worse can happen if you are not monitored. When your water breaks you lose nutrients and the baby can be in jeopardy.Of course it replenishes it self some what but dont take any chances. You need to be examined asap. It's most important to go to the hospital and tell her to meet you there. Don't wait for contractions go now! Thats why when your water breaks they never send you home from the hospital. The baby has no choice but to come.
Good luck new mommy!

Just like every baby, every pregnancy is different. I would go ahead and call the midwife to let her know your water has broken. Only reason I say that is because mine was torn and leaking for 2 days. The doctors told me that by not calling in, I could have gotten an infection that would have harmed the baby. Of course, he was fine, but go ahead and call anyway, just to be safe. She's a midwife, I'm sure she gets all kinds of calls at all hours. Good luck! ;)

If your water has broken, you are 5 days overdue, and you aren't having contractions, I would head to the hospital. You might need some Pitocin or something to help with your labor. Now that your water has broken, you need to have your baby within the next 24 hours. Good luck.

You may need to call your midwife back. I know my doctor told me to get to the hospital within an hour of my water breaking. She said if I did'nt, I would run a risk of infection. Contractions will start soon. Best of luck!

The same thing happened to me with my first child. My water broke at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and my first contractions started around 4:30 p.m. Friday. My son was born at 8:52 p.m. Saturday. But, everyone is different, so you may have them sooner than that.
Call your midwife even if you don't have any contractions.
Good luck!!

Congrats hun! it will not be to long. But if you can i would suggest you shower and head to bed. You will need your rest for today. If they start when you are sleeping do not worry. Just have a second hand watch by your bed. Set the alarm for 7:45 to call her. That gives you 15 minutes to regroup and see if you lost more fluid. And you will have had some rest.

They could start at anytime. I have heard of it taking a week or more for them to begin after the water breaks. Chances are, since you are already a week late if they dont start soon your doctor may induce the labor for you with meds. Good luck! I hope you have a healthy baby and an easy labor and delivery.

My contractions started within 1/2 hour of water breaking, but my mom broke her water and never had contractions until they induced her.
