Most cities are already plagued by poor atmospheric conditions, why else do so many people need puffers?

And Japan is on the ocean, and I'm sure they get their fair share of tidal waves during tsunami season. Maybe you meant a tsunami, for which they're already working on preventing damage from.

And maybe you should post this in astrology, not astronomy, this has nothing to do with space or stellar bodies.
