I think something's fishy, myself. Iran's president gave medals to the men who captured the sailors, then turns around and says he's going to give them back. He started talking to the prisoners, and they're wearing nice new suits, and THANKING HIM FOR HIS GENEROSITY. Britain has been denying the saiolrs' entrance into Iranian waters the whole time. What do they need to thank the Iranians for? For wrongly capturing them, and then being nice enough to let them go? No, I think that he's manipulating the sailors. Probably either holding their lives, or holding their freedom over them. Of course, the guy says its a gift in celebration of the birthday of Mohammad, and the passing of Christ... except its not the passing of Christ that is being celebrated on Easter: its the resurrection... so he's not even realizing the religeous issues with what he is saying. I think 1 of 3 things has happened or is happening. 1, he's gotten something out of the sailors, and that's all he wanted. 2, he's got a plan to hurt Britain when he sends them back. 3, he's trying to drum up international support aginst Britain, and in favor of himself.

The capture and releases of the sailors is a political game plan for by the Iran President so he gain popularity in the Middle east.

He couldn't convince the British authorities to lie and admit guilt, and they had no intention of keeping the sailors in the first place, so they had to have an acceptable excuse for letting them go. It was all planned on their part, with contingency plans depending on how the West responded.
