Resignation opening line?

Question

I need help writing an opening to resign from a volunteer leadership position Ive held for the past two years. Its a career/skill building community, and Im writing it to exec sponsor of it, who has been a great mentor. Im moving on as my career path has changed and Id actually fit better into a different skill building community. The sample ones Ive found online, open with an ask "to accept this resignation" which I think is too much for this - any ideas?

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to contribute and I believe the experience I have gain have put me in good stead for future career. I wish to thank you for your patience, guidance and for being a great mentor to me during my stay with.........

It is with great regret that I must tender my resignation effective____ That is a great line because it sounds like it is time to move on the your employer will understand and appreciate your sorrow. Don't forget to thank them for the opportunity and the knowledge you will take with you.

Just communicate your gratitude and appreciation for what they have done for you.
