My friend is doing this today and the word for it is almost bizarre but not quite clever enough...

Well, let's break this down:

An American who always searches out American food no matter where they are is called an American.

An American expat who only orders the food of their adopted country even when in America is called a Hamburgophobe.

An American who enjoys Japanese cuisine to the point that they would choose to live in Japan is called a Wasbiphile.

But an American who lives in Japan eating Japanese food while on vacation in Europe is only, I'm afraid to say, a typical American: sticking to the familiar regardless of, or even because of, all the other exciting possibilities. Because you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl.

Therefore, the word you may be looking for is [drumroll please]:

Japoamericanbistrobore

Damn. Now I'm hungry...

I admit, I am some what intrigue by Japanese culture. It all started (like with most people) with anime. I do like quite a bit of the music as well. As for the fashion, well, some I like, some I don't. I'm not an extreme fan; I love all kinds of music and I love any cartoon with a good plot before I even was interested in Japanese culture, so I'm sure I will always like some anime and some Japanese music to some degree. But I think for most people, it's just a fad. It's something different and new to them, and once that wears off, they'll be on to something else. I can't answer for everyone else, but I simply like many of the animation and movies, simply for the art story plots. The plots are unique (well, to me anyway) and as a big lover of animation, my fave would have to be 2-D animation. Here in America, we are over-run by computer-animation (which in my opinion does not really express true art talent) and on occasion when we do have 2-D animation, it sucks. As for the music, well I just like it.
