do you give them some instructions about it's proper usage? I do, with one exception. Most guys know the drill.

Depends on the tool. Some need special instructions, most don't.

My tools are my livelihood, I don't loan them out. Most guys wouldn't know how to use half the tools I've got anyway.

Sometimes. But make sure they sign the item out. That way you know who has what and since when and in what condition it was in when they borrowed it.

It depends, my friend wanted to use my chainsaw,but I just went over and cut the trees down for him, I don't like lending my stuff

If they don't know how to use it, you probably shouldn't give it to them if you want it back in one piece.
