Is it close to downtown Las vegas/ Is it clean and comfortable? How large is the hotel/casino? Are there any cheap restaurants in the casino? Does a bus or trolley stop at the hotel/casino?

The "California" is great, it's very-very clean(it's NOT a dump). The rooms are not opulent like some of the five star hotels on the strip buy they are nice rooms.

California is one block from Fremont Street, all you have to do is walk across the street and into Vegas Club, past the sports memorabilia collection :-) out the front doors and you're on Fremont St

California has 781 rooms, they do have a small pool on the roof.

The casino is on 2 levels, most everything is on the first level but there are some slot & video poker machines on the second level. they have a very tiny sports book. The downtown casino's are not massive like the mega resorts on the strip, but, they are a nice size.

California's "Market Street Cafe" serves up some of the very best value meals in all of LV. Their "graveyard" specials(11pm-7am) are some of the very best in LV >it's in my top three along with Palace Station & Orleans< 8oz NY steak with all the fixins for $3.95 & 2 Pancakes + 2 Eggs for $2.95 are an example of the graveyard special menu

The DTT(downtown trasportation center) is only one block away. You can catch the CAT or Deuce bus there.
http://www.trcsnv.com $2.50 for an all day pass on the CAT $5 on the Deuce. If you're really cheap and want to get to and from the strip for the $2.50 take the #108 Paradise bus then transfer to either the #201 Tropicana bus for the South Strip or the #202 Flamingo for the center of the strip(not that "I" would ever do such a thing)

California does not have a buffet, but that's not much of a problem because all you have to do is walk across the "covered sky bridge" between the Cal and Main Street Station>MSS buffet is the #1 best value buffet in LV for lunch and dinner(IMHO) >The Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery serves up a pretty good meal as well(one of my favorites) The Pullman Grille is the #1 "moderate" price steak house in all of LV>The restaurant is built around the fireplace from Preswick Castle >If you can't tell MSS is my favorite hotel in LV to stay/play/eat

this site has lots of great up to date info on LV

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. You're going to love downtown if you like to gamble(low limits) or eat(great food at great prices).

If you have any more Q's feel free to send me an anonymous e-mail through YA.

I believe it's in the strip along with the other famous hotels. It should be fine in terms of cleanliness etc.

I stayed at the Monte Carlo one, and it was really good. Casino was reasonably sized. I went to the Cali one too, it's pretty good.

it fairly is in previous city Vegas, it fairly is off the strip and that's a unload... The lodge itself isn't all that undesirable, however the area is poor and there's a ton of crime over there... i might recomend the Tropicana on the Strip, it fairly is exceedingly low-cost and it fairly is truly impressive and has an fantastic breakfast buffet!
