Practice, practice practice you cannot improve anything without practicing. Hearing a ball bounce in an empty gym is one of the best sounds ever. Play pick up ball or just shoot around at all the spots on the floor you would most likely take a shot and some places you wouldn't normally shoot from. That way in a game situation you won't be nervous about putting it up.

Put some BEEF JABB in your shot!
BEEF is =Bend your knees
Elbows at an angle
Eyes looking at only the hoop
Feet are facing the basket
JABB is =Jump, get your feet off the ground
Arc, don't just throw up a line drive
Back, keep it straight
Backspin, makes your shot softer on the rim

Coach Hoover only works on the shot, my kid has been working with him since 4th grade, and is the starting shooting guard at his Catholic high school in Orange County.

Practice is very important. However, you'd be practicing the wrong thing over and over if you don't learn it correctly. I totally agree with the guy who said BEEF JABB. It really helps.
Good Luck!
