why ask such question when the answer is obvious. they really like to belong to the class of dark people. they are so desperate to be dark. that is why they stay out all day long but alas they get negative results.

That's because they want or expect to get golden tanned in a blink of an eye. If a person is very white or pale they should try to tan gradually by laying out on the beach for 10 mins the first couple of days then increase the time and use lots and lots of sunscreen.

I am as white as they come... I do not try and tan, I for one would look like a lobster to say the least, It is not worth the pain and the risk of cancer... that is how my father died.

So I am PALE AND PROUD...., but when you see my glowing white self at the beach or the pool. or shopping in shorts do not call me a ghost, or whitey... you know all the names...

I am thankful, sometimes I will use a self tanner. They have gotten better over the years, this is to try and not blind everyone.

The Tan comes after the 'lobster' stage 8)

Unless you mean a cheap fake tan?
In which case "Lobster" is the ending result :p

because they have to have something to show for the fact that they have just spent a fortune going away on holiday, they ahve only 2 weeks to get browwn, so most overdo it on the first day, then spend the next week recovering before going through it all again. I'm white, live in Spain, and NEVER go out sunbathing, but still manage to get brown just by walking around and when I sit out it is always in the shade of an umbrealla or sun blind.

I grew up on the beaches, in Florida and saw what you state, mostly tourists.

And "lobster," was the word.

As to why, they are trying to get a tan too quickly. If I was from Ohio and went to Florida I could see them wanting to come back with a tan, if even for envy or bragging rights, as it exemplifies the experience of having been to Florida, a so-called tropical paradise.

Some look nice , well one of my friend she goes tanning but she is white puerto-rican it looks nice on her kind of an orangy glow
I know what you mean though another one of my white girlfriends goes tanning every week sometimes twice a week and in the summer lounge by the pool , her hair is bleached as well , she doesn't look to good with it in my opinion but when i tell her she thinks I'm trying to be mean
Hay what can you do some blacks want to be white , some whites want to be black ,or tan , some Hispanics want to be white or black
People sometimes tend to want what they can't have or was blessed with by nature .

I suppose Whites tan for the same reasons that Asians and South Americans bleach their skin, and the same reason that many blacks try to stay out of the sun to avoid getting darker. They have a problem with the color it is because of the way society views it.

Then, there's that whole bit about the fact that if you go out in the sun, you will receive some amount of light. I sure as hell don't "go" tanning, because I think my fair skin is gorgeous and radiant, but I'm not going to wear a burqa and shades in the summer to keep it creamy.

Some look nice with a tan, and you may not like how others look when they get a tan. It's up to them.

Why should they stay out of the sun, the sun feels great on the skin. I would say limit the amount of time you stay in the sun if you are prone to burning.
