He made the statement, but he doesn't follow through and try to build an intimate relationship. We still talk and laugh and have a good time, but neither one has made an effort to take it to the next level. If he didn't want to be sexual, why did he make this statement?

All too often if a man is freinds with the fairer sex, and he makes a romantic gesture, he is rebuked with "I love you and all, but we're just friends". Him saying that was to test the waters.

My suggestion is to say to him the following:
"Remember when you said If I could have someone like you,it would be good"? Well why would you want someone like me when you can have me."

Either it is just a statement of how he would like to find someone with your personality etc or it could be that he is testing the waters. If you are interested, ask him if he thinks it would work out between the two of you. You can always do it in a joking way to find out what he says.

I know and friends like this, and in my opinion, and this is fine with me, but it explains a lot; maybe the person is gay, and just not comfortable coming out with it. I do have a friend like this; everyone can see that he pretty much is and won't admit to it. He's in a relationship now and has been for awhile but chooses not to marry. He and I used to hang out ALL of the time, and nothing happened between us. Usually it's hard for intimate feelings not to form; you know?

He is probably dropping a subtle hint. I am guessing that he is interested in you, but does not have the courage to ask you out directly. Perhaps you can hint to him that you are interested in him as well, and observe his response.

Maybe he wants to take it to the 'next level', but wants to know where you stand?

if i were you i wouldnt take it so seriously.....he could have meant exactly what he said you may not want to over analyze things until you know for sure dat he likes you.....so then you wont look stupid if you try to make a move on him or somethin

I'm not positive but it sounds like he thinks that you're a great person. And he wants someone like you, but not exactly you.
