Yes, there are such things, called a power pack which is a multipurpose pack for jump starting cars or running electrical tools. They are a bit bulky though, probably 1 1/2 ft x 1 ft x 9 inches deep.
An small inverter can also convert battery power to electrical power. I you use fluorescent power saving globes it may work for you.
Another option is to run a thin twin light cord under the carpet, or a cord up through a hole the floor

there are solar generators .. basically build it yourself .. you need a battery bank, a charger, and an inverter sized according to your needs. As mentioned above it wont go as far as you might think and designing a backup system around conservation is going to be key to success. There is alot you should research and learn about batterys, what voltage you want to design a battery bank for, and matching an inverter and charger to the system ... to give you an idea of an 'overnight' system which wouldnt power an ac or dryer or 240 hot water heater .. you would need about 8 210AH golfcart batterys, a 2500 watt pure sine inverter, about a 40 amp charger minimum (and know how to charge properly if its not automatic) and you could conceivable run a purpose designed well water system, run a few low wattage lights, run a laptop, maybe cook a quick meal on a low power mic or induction hotplate, and run a fan or two or a heated blanket .... if you wanted hot water off the grid you would have to plan that likely to be heated on the genset .. and of course you need the genset ... this is basically a solar system without the panels using a generator instead ... easily you could get 4-5 grand into something functional ...

You could get a car battery, and a voltage inverter. See the link below for more information about these. This converts 12 volts DC to 110 volts AC. But it would be ugly, and you'd need to recharge the battery periodically.
How about instead you hang a swag lamp near the spot, and run the cord to the nearest wall outlet?

Yes but, I have a camper. We run some small electric app. on an outlet that is wired to an inverter. It is wired from the batterys to the inverter, that changes the DC to Ac. You would still have to run a wire or have a car battery sitting in the floor.

There prob is, I would check a hardware store. But I don't think that it would be a good idea, cause it probably would not last long, depending on battery size and bulb wattage. that could get expensive and a pain. it would probably be better to get an electrician to put in a plug where you need it. Or somehow hide an extension cord.

Wrap the cord with electrical tape or some other type if insulation and run it underneath the rug or just change the room around so it doesn't have to be in the middle of The room.
