I capitalized HOSTAGES because a lot of people(liberals) refuse to call them that.

Anyways, will he really have them returned, or is he lying through his teeth?

He will if he's smart. This could be an attempt to antagonize us or the Brits into a conflict to keep himself in power though, and that would be a bad thing right now.

If push comes to shove, we should just start "shock and awe" on various military targets, that should get their undivided attention...

He'll return them. He is just making a statement right now and this will in no way benifit him in the future if he continues to hold them hostage.

There was no reason to take them in the first place! He is just using them for political power.

He will return them once he feels that he can no longer gain anything politically from them. They will not be harmed, he isn't stupid enough to give the U.K. & the U.S. that much of a push.

Well, he just had them returned. And he has footage of the crew admitting to trespassing when they were picked up. Apparently the crew was very well taken care of and appreciated the Iranian presidents actions.
