Well, I'd say agreement between noun and verb in terms of singular vs. plural is one.

Knowing which words need to be capitalized is another.

One of the problems that I notice with my students is that they can no longer hear improper grammar. Once upon a time, a person could tell when they were having an issue with subject verb agreement, or using the improper tense. Now students are so accustomed to hearing improper grammar that they have no idea that it's not correct. This is a nightmare for students when it is time for them to do a high-stakes writing assignment. It's it almost impossible for them to revise or edit without one-on-one help from the teacher-a tough task when one has 35+ students and only 54 minutes per class.
