the publisher is probably not trustworthy. I can tell you because I am a writer. If you are interested in subsidy publishing and if the publisher undertakes subsidy publishing then its o.k. OTHERWISE REMEMBER THAT BE IT A WRITER OR A POET, HE OR SHE GETS PAID TO WRITE.

Publisher may be genuine but may not have adequate faith in your book selling well to recover his costs. So, he may be asking for a contribution from your side. In USA, vanity publishing and self publishing is quite a vogue.

Yes; or it can be what they call here in America, a Vanity Press, meaning one that will publish your writing if you pay them to do it.
Only problem with a Vanity publication, you have to provide your own distribution (a major factor is selling any book.)

You have to give him share of yours for getting it published....Anyhow, getting published and your poetry is known to many through the publisher....
