Anyone who knows geography at all knows that Mexico is part of North America, no matter where they are from! I'm American but I'm sure most British citizens know their geography enough to know the difference. However, I don't think anyone spends a lot of time thinking about it!

Because the USA likes to think of North America as being a very westernised soceity (unlike Mexico). They do not want to be associated with a country like Mexico and so try to distance themselves form it. This gives the rest of the world the impression that the are two different continents.

You have to concider context. If we talk about a geographical Mexico, it,s in North America. Culturally however, Mexico has more in common with Latin/South America than North America.

Hey, we're not all morons. But there are more than a few, admittedly in the UK. However I'm not one, and I know where Mexico is. Could you point to The Democratic Replubic of Congo on a globe? Most brits could I think.

What about Cuba?
It's probably the same reason that most Americans think Central America is Kansas.

I don't know a single Brit who thinks that.
I think its because we have an education system which is so good we even know that South and America are actually two words. And are proper nouns.

It's not the only Latin American country in North America. "Central" America is not its own continent; it is considered part of North America.
The European Union actually does not consider Mexico to be part of North America.

my guess would be, its the same reason that many mexicans cant even find the uk on a map, or even find the area that is considered europe. and that reason would be.....ignorance,lack of education, lack of understanding, or even caring. some live within their own boundaries, and never care to exit that box.
