I assume 2^x means x²

x² = 4x

(4)² = 4(4)

16 = 16

Yeah,
Since 4x is a power of 2 and 4 itself is 2^2
Its quite obvious that x= 2^y where y is some integer.
This means:

2^x= 2^2*(2^y)

2^x=2^(y+2) {Law of indices}
This means x=y+2

But x= 2^y

=] 2^y =y+2
This is possible only if y=2
This in turn means x=4 is the solution.

if you mean 2 to the power of x then x=2

2007-04-04 01:48:53 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 0 3

2^x=4x
2^x=2^2 * x
2^(x-2)=x
by trial and error we can get x as 4 because
2^(4-2)=4
2^(2)=4 is correct.
Therefore x=4
