"Star-crossed" or "star-crossed lovers" is a reference to those who fight against (or cross) their fate, which is written in the stars. The phrase was first recorded by William Shakespeare in his play Romeo and Juliet.
have included the passage below:
ACT I PROLOGUE
Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life [1]
It also refers to destiny and the inevitability of the two characters' paths crossing each other. It also usually means unlucky, since Romeo and Juliet's affair ended tragically.

I believe that Shakespeare's words are open to interpretation and that when he wrote " a pair of star-crossed lovers" he was referring to fate. For example it was written in the stars that they were meant to meet. It was fated.
It is the same for those that read their stars, well in Romeo and Juliet's case their paths were destined to cross. I understand this from the word "star-crossed"

" a pair of star crossed lovers" means that Romeo + Juliet are a pair of lovers whose paths have crossed. Star crossed could mean like a horoscope or heaven or fate have brought them together. Putting "star crossed" into the sentence gives it a lot more meaning and depth rather than just saying "a pair of lovers"

"star crossed" = ill fated.
To be "star crossed," in Shakespeare's day, would suggest that the stars were not properly aligned to bring ease and happiness into your life.
There's an old blues song called "Born Under a Bad Sign;" it's the same idea.

A pair of star-crossed lovers means that two people (lovers)...even though drawn to each other here on earth, were never actually meant to be together....as the "heavens" or the "stars (astologic signs)" would say, or predict.
In other words, no matter how much they wanted to be together, or tried...they could never actually be "as one" because the Universe or "higher powers" had even greater power ...that would always and forever keep them apart..

My Drama II class actually got finish doing the Romeo & Juliet play last week! So, star crossed lovers are lovers that were never meant to be together. Any relationship that " star-crossed" is ruined before it begins! : )

I'm not sure, but i think it's higher than two jacks and maybe even 3 of a kind.
It means that their future was predestined, they were just playing out the inevitable.Their future was written in the stars.
