That's a good question, I talk in my sleep, not sure what causes it. I don't think that it is posession though. It occurs mainly during REM sleep, the time when you are dreaming. REM is the lightest stage of sleep. In REM, you are very close to conciousness, but also very close to access to your sub-concious mind. I think that being so close to conciousness in this state, makes it possible to communicate, while still being asleep. When you have access to the sub-concious, you can access information you are not consciously aware you posess. I can even have my eyes open and talking to you, and you will think that I am awake, but I am still asleep. I just thank heaven I am not a sleep walker.

I doubt that it's just because the side of the brain that controllers speech is on the opposite side that we dream on so if someone talks in their sleep it will come out all gibberish like

when one talks too much, there is tendency for talking in his/her sleep, secondly people that belong to one familiar spirit or the other also talk in their sleep.
