Because there's so much more out there than just news. If you want "just news" they have HLN.

You mean like Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, and Cafferty's bit on the Situation Room? They ALL have those. MSNBC has Tucker Scarborough, and Matthews. Fox has Gibson, Cavuto, Hume, Hannity & Colmes, and O'Reilly, and the Beltway Boys on the Weekend. There's a possibility I've missed a few.
These are common shows to have on news networks, since some people aren't able to think for themselves, and need to be spoon fed their opinion with their daily news (this happens on both sides). With the influx of "opini-news", it's harder and harder to get an unbiased opinion anymore.
If your looking for a quick, unbiased report, turn to the internet. With the exception of blogs, most of it is (mostly) unbiased.
I will point out that, factually, Fox News Channel does have more opinion & commentary shows than MSNBC, which in turn has more opinion & commentary shows than CNN.

Lou Dobbs is CNN's equivalent to Bill O'Reilly. (Well, almost. O'Reilly is really, really bad.) But they both suck big time and are blowhards. Dobbs gives a bad name to those of us who legitimately oppose our borders being so damned porous. But illegal immigration *is* a serious problem, whether or not zealots are against it or for it. (One that I'm pretty sure we don't agree on, but that happens.) frenzy: I adore Jack Cafferty! And you're quite right, he has definitely been silenced for the most part :( I used to love watching him in the mornings when he was actually allowed to speak. Now all they let him do is read viewers' emails for a few minutes in the evening. Pathetic. That's too bad; he was the best thing that ever happened to CNN....

The same reason that all newspapers and magazines run "opinion" pages, to let people have their say and express themselves. Which news channels do not have opinion segments?
