The coldest recorded temperature on Earth was at the Vostok research center near the South Pole, Antarctica. I recall the recorded temperature at being around minus 128 deg F. That would be, of course, during their winter, which is summer in the northern hemisphere.
By comparison, the Antarctica Peninsula, which is much farther north of the South Pole, can be a balmy 30-40 deg F in their summertime. I know this because I just returned from there this past February. The highs for my 12 day stay down there ranged from 1 deg C to 7 deg C, with most days around 3 deg C.
