PET,CET,PTU,JEE,AIEEE,CPMT TEST are are entrance exam tests. IN india to enter / get addmission into top medical and engineering colleges/ universities.( i know this because i have sitted in exams as well taucht as private tutor).
PET : PREE ENTRANCE TEST,FOR STATE UNIVERSITIES/ COLLEGES
CET-COOMON ENTRANCE TEST, FOR STATE UNIVERSITIES/ COOLEGES
IIT-JEE- JOINT ENTRANCE TEST for entrring into indian institutes of technologies ( 7 now)
PTU,- punjab technical university.
AIEEE, -ALL INDIA ENGINNERING AND MEDICAL COLLEGES ENTRANCE EXAMS, ( EVERY STATE COLLEGE HAS CERTAIN QUOTA PLUS CENTRAL INSTITUTES)
CPMT :-COOMOM PREE MEDICAL TEST FOR ENTERING INTO STATE MEDICAL COLLEGES.
These are all tests where in based on marrit rank one gets admission or looses to get in.
almost all tests are three-four hours long with three subjects ; physics , chemistry , maths for engineering and physics , chemistry and biology for medical exams.
papers are mostly objective ( except iitjee which also have long ans questions plus a quylifying test for eligibilty to just sit in final JEEE) . 60 qs each subject with sixty minutes time and negative marks for wrong answers,
sylabus is that of A LEVEL ( 10+2 YEARS OF STUDY THESE SUBJECTS IN WHICH TO APPEAR).
IIT JEE IS BEST FOR ENGINEERING AND TOUGHEST TOO .( YOU KNOW THESE ARE MITS OF INDIA) , other being AIEEE.for engineering
CBSE-AIEEE, FOR MEDICAL COLLEGES
AND
AFMC PUNE AND AIIMS TESTS ARE TOPMOST IN MEDICAL IN INDIA .
