People saying it is not normal must not have boys. I have 5 of them and boys do odd things. First off take the hammer and nail s and put them where he cannot find them. My friend has a frog pond and her son was constantly abusing and killing the frogs by dropping them off his fort roof or just tossing them around..and yes he even took a hammer and nails to them. To him it was entertaining. He treated his household pets with so much love so I don't think he is gonna grow up to be a serial killer. Anyway she told her son that if he killed another frog she would cook it and he would have to eat it. Guess what he did...well she took that dead frog and through it in a frying pan and put it on a plate and asked if he wanted ketchup or something to hide the taste. He flipped out cuz he finally took her seriously. He has not killed a frog since and this was a couple years ago. Explain to him also that frogs are good to have around because they eat bugs. I would not say he is disturbed really not if it is just frogs he is doing this to. Boys do some pretty destructive things. I have pictures of my boys with frogs hanging out of their mouths. They have done some pretty weird things and broken alot of things.

I played with frogs in the same way !Except I had a piece of wood with a nail in it...I also threw them on the roof so I could watch them jump off.Time will change his interests and soon he will be squishing worms...Put the hammer and nails far from his reach !!! Oh yeah for those who thinks it is physco behavior "GET A GRIP " I turned out to be a chef in life and not a killer,And I have no desire to abuse others,But I sure would like too nail another FROG...

I have a 5 year old boy and i know as well as anyone how boisterious and imaginative boys can be. Boys will be boys but i think that's taking it a bit far, lol. You should explain to him how cruel it is. I would be hiding the nails and hammer as well. My son loves hammering things and messing about outside, i bought him a load of toy tools so he doesn't have to be touching the real ones. Keeps him and the frogs safe but still lets him use his imagination.

Like the above posters it could just be boys being boys. But its also possible that your son is acting out of anger/frustration about something going on in the home, school, family, friends etc. Have there been any huge changes since he started behaving this way? You should have a good talk with your son to see if he is having any problems.

Let's see call the cops and have him arrested for animal cruelty! I mean come on man. He's 4 years old! How about supervision!! Maybe he's not the only one acting 4...
Where is everyone's common sense? Why are you telling this moron that there's something wrong with his son? No there's something wrong with the parents not taking control over their child and teaching him right from wrong. If this child were supervised correctly he would not have the chance to kill frogs. He also should not be using something dangerous like a hammer at age 4. Wake up folks. Stop acting like a bunch of mindless idiots!

Hide the hammer and nails. Give him a speech about hurting nature in a way he would understand. Take him to the zoo and teach him that frogs are needed to keep bugs down.
How did he get the hammer and nails to begin with at the age of four???

He'll probably de-leg the daddy-long-legs in September too!
I think it's a destructive phase all kids go through before they realise what the difference is between things being alive and dead. Get him a little pet to look after (but take a way the hammer first!).

that is not normal obviously, you should start by locking hammer, nails etc away in the garage or garden shed, so that he cannot get hold of anything dangerous, talk to him ask him why he does this, if you do not get anywhere with him you should think about going to your doctor, has he suffered any trauma lately, lost a loved one or something that may result in him showing his grief in this way, good luck.

String your son up to a tree and beat him with a big stick, where did the little horror learn to be so cruel.
