You don't say what kind of fit, and haven't described what it looks like so I'm not sure I can help much.

You can have a fit or seizure and not have epilepsy though. I'd need more info to help anymore.

Sometimes medications can cause seizures as well. The only way to find out what could be causing someone to have seizures is to see a neurologist for an EEG and other necessary tests such as a CT Scan or MRI.

A disruption in the brain electrical system - an EEG is often done to find out the cause.
Other causes could be accidental - a head injury from an accident.
Or a metabolic cause.

an be lead by stress. Being aggravated during the day you would think that you would be okay but some people can't handle the stress or to be annoyed after being aggravated. This can cause a chain reaction of any situation.
