How can you get rid of fingerprints?

Question

I'm writing a story...and my character needs to erase her identity. How can you get rid of fingerprints? Burn them?

The story is set in present time and it is a Bourne Identity kind of thing. She has already faked her death...now she needs to stay dead. That will be kinda hard if her fingerprints show up. I was going to write that she burns them off...but will that really work? Will the skin heal like a scar..or will it show a print again?

Let your character chop her hands off and use prosthetic hands in their place.

When is it set?

When I was more active hand-spinning wool and cotton with a drop spindle my ridges were just short of impossible to print. This was from spinning only an hour or so each day. With 2 or more hours daily, it might've been impossible. It was very frustrating for registration methods then in use.

Such activity does *not* offer difficulty for the modern optical scans. In either case, with the absence of spinning, the ridges return to normal.

The best things to do is burn and eliminate his/her hands.
But I suggest maybe you should take another topic for your story. If not, then it is in your creativity that the story's rating lies on.

well the "character" in your "story" may melt their fingerprints off, but if you happen to get arrested and they notice what you've done, then ... that's not gonna be good
