Hello? 200 degrees celcius (do your own conversion to farenheit but basically thats bloody hot).

What germs are going to survive that?

I never understood that either. I would have been pissed if they made us put out our Cigarettes before baking.

Yes, it is hot in the oven and most likely - NO germs would survive that.

However..... you also will be touching kitchen utensils, other ingrediens (which will be put back on the shelf), cooking surfaces, etc. And the contamination can spread to other places and people. Think about it. Why do you think so many people get food poisoning in restaurants?

Hand washing reduces all the dirty stuff that are on your hand - and it is NOT just bacteira. There are dirt, dead skin, dust, body oil, and anything else that you may have touched before cooking - RIGHT THERE on your hands. You can't see it , but it's all there.

There are bacteria that can contaminate food and produce toxin and this gets into the food it is living on. You might not see it or smell it (not in large enough quantity yet) and you might think that because you heated the food, all the germs are dead. However, the toxin remains. There are well documented cases of this form of poisoning

As far as bacteria killed by heat, we now know that there are microbes that live close by the underwater volcamoes which shoot out hot water close to boiling point. Yet these microbes are perfectly capable of living right next to them.

Remove your shoes before you go inside and have them disinfected. If your pants are long enough to touch the floor I'd recommend changing out of them as well. Whoever gave the first answer a thumbs down is naive. Parvo is every bit as contagious as the answer made it out to be. The virus can be carried on your clothes, most likely your shoes. Remove those shoes from the house or disinfect them thoroughly (bleach). If your pants you wore are long enough to touch the floor, disinfect them as well. Parvo IS that contagious. Disinfecting a counter top at the vet is all well and good but does NOTHING for the trail of virus exposure that dog left behind everywhere it walked in that office. Parvo is transmitted by fecal matter but what people forget is dogs STEP in their own fecal matter, lick most of it off, but whatever remains is still an infection waiting to spread everywhere that dog steps.
