I found one strange statement from a site when I queried them about some spyware. I was told to let them know which spyware and they would contact the company to find out the best way to get rid of it.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the spyware guys supposed to be the bad guys? Companies???? hmmm
I realize that there are problems involved in attacking a virus sending source, but surely no bigger ones than the efforts at
defence to stop them.
I don't know of any war that was ever won in defense mode. if their attacks caused more problems for themselves than the people they attack, it would seem reasonable that those attacks would lessen or even stop.
Why are there no programs out there 'now' that can attack the source of a virus, even past the automatic sender bugs that are out there? Is there any research into that kind of program/s? I am totally frustrated in being attacked with no way to combat the attackers. Is there no way to turn this war around?

I'm not an expert, but I think most spyware isn't really an attack, but just a nuisance. The purpose is to track activity for marketing purposes, so these are companies that compile data by means of spyware. But I think malware is something different and is not done by companies, but by those with malicious intent.

Well Freethinking dude
The internet is somewhat like the old west in regard to the lack of laws and control at hand !! There are certain actions that are watched quite carefully by certain agencies and laws that have been put in place to guard against abuses at the outer edges of the realm---but a lot of territory that is still uncovered and "lawless" in the way it is operated and utilized by the "outlaws" and "banditos" that roam these hills and valleys known as the ethernet !!!
Spyware---or what is termed "Spyware" by you and I and a lot of the scan services and "virus" programs--- are simply viewed by the people producing such crap as "marketing tools" and over and over again when they are brought up to questioning on the subject -- they simply stand on the "free market system" as their primary case of license to do such garbage !!! There are at least six companies that I know of personally that produce this junk and market it on the open market to other companies for their use AS "Marketing Tools"... And, I have even had hand to hand combat with two of their "products" on my own system within the last year !!

Until there is a viable internet law enforcement agency and set "rules of the road" with genuine legal leverage to bring these people to answer legally for their actions--- this area will remain an open season on users everywhere---- BUT when this happens (if it ever does) there will be certain rights and previledges that we, as users, will have to give up as well---- because when laws go into effect--- they effect everyone---not just the abusers !!!

Malware and viruses (worms etc) are another matter----however THEY hardly ever have a "homesite" to target their origin or kickpoint !! And, fighting the originators of THESE vicious little snipes is like fighting ghosts in a fog !!! That is the most frustrating of all ---AND---what the authors of this garbage count on---- being totally stealth and unavailable TO retaliation !! Like little chicken livered dorks sending out bugs to infest the world while locked away in their little dungeons with smerks on their faces about how "cleaver" they are !! But, there are some people who are getting extremely good at tracking these little trolls down these days-- and have taken on a genuine sense of QUEST in doing so-- so -- stay tuned--- these wars are just now beginning to heat up -- and in the near future you probably will be hearing about some of these "Doctor Evil's " going down big time at the hands of a new group of "Wyatt Earp's" of the cyberworld !!!!

Well , let us assume that there is a one only source from which all "spywares" and the likes are built, then someone(a person or a group of persons) exist(s) that controls them.

Then this/these person(s) are extremely powerful and requires another powerful party/group to interfere with him/her/them.

Now unless a group of equal or greater power are formed, then fighting would be really useless.

Well translate that to reality, then that situation occurs to all of us.A bigger power controls everythng so fear not because there are still people like you who possess the will to fight them. People who make free anti-viruses, and other open source apps, till they are forced to stop.

P.S. Changing is the only way.
