dont be confused, I'm grown an feel I have gained this wisdom, I just thought it would be nice for sombody doing soul searching to find a deep, wise answer to this question. the hard part may be grasping it, and its nice to see people can go beyond shallow ignorance, and reach into their soul, I believe this is the way we truly grow

Taking responsibility for one’s self combined with life experience make someone mature. A quote I really love says “Being mature is doing what you want to do, even if your mother wants you to do it too.”

When people can look inside and make decisions based on integrity, when they can be honest with themselves, that’s being grown up. It’s a life long process and understanding that is also a sign of maturity; knowing you haven’t “arrived,” knowing and admitting that “you don’t know what you don’t know” is a big one too.

Being grown means having the life experience to know that when you fall on your face—which we all do—you can get back up. That means learning from our mistakes as we go. It means knowing that when the hard times come that “this too shall pass” and you’ll get through it to the other side.

I value dignity, strength, and grace (like in good manners and being kind to others, even if they’re not so nice) as qualities of someone who is mature.

When you know "You don't have to learn everything the hard way," and when you start asking these kinds of questions, it means you’re on track!

Being grown up has nothing to do with turning 18. You are grown when you take responsibility for your actions and you learn respect for others. When you take control of your life and set it in a direction and you don't depend on others to make the choices for you or for others to come bail you out of situations. As far as the dumb choices you will do that all of your life. The 18 thing is just a number that the law says you will be responsible. Some grow up very quickly {I did} and then there are some that seems like they don't ever grow up.

For some people, mental maturity comes very early in life. For others, it comes when life is slowing down. Tragically, some reach a heightened maturity level only at the moments before their own death. When you finally realize you need to be an adult, you will become one. Then the fun starts. Bills, credit card debt, kids, what do you mean the dog puked on the new living room carpet? Then the "Golden Years" come. That's when you retire, get an R.V. and go annoy your grown children and young lovers making out at night in the Wal-Mart parking lots way in the back as you park there for an over-night nap. Did I mention the "adult" diapers?

Simply turning 18 does not make you "grown up". All this means is that in the eyes of the law, you are solely responsible for your actions, and your parents are no longer accountable for you. Don't worry though, a lot of people never grow up. Being grown up, I think, means taking responsibility for your own life. This includes getting a job, paying bills, taking care of your children, etc. I can't give you any one single moment that will explain it, you will just know. You are on the right track though. I don't know of any children who would think to ask such a tough question. My guess is that you are already pretty much grown up, and you just don't realize it yet.

Being "grown up" has absolutely nothing to do with age. You'll know when you've finally grown up. I guess it's at that point where you can assert yourself without being angry or getting anyone else angry. You also won't be taking every things some else says so seriously.

My husband and I were married at age 21. (TOO EARLY~!)
It took us 10 years to decide if we were ready to start a family. Having kids changes the parent's lives in ways too complicated to explain. You will NEVER be the same after a kid enters the picture.

If you can handle a child without constant crabbing, hollering, spanking, or getting too out of control yourself, then you'll be grown up. The kids will turn out better too.

When you have a child of your own to hold and nurture.

You cant believe that had so much love inside of you. You realize that you would easily sacrifice your life for your child's if you had to.

You realize that the change of life style before and after children is a blessing because you probably would have self destructed. The new responsibility is liberating.

You cant understand or relate to people your own age who have chosen to not have children.

That's when I realized I really and truly was grown up.

Some of us never grow up, even if we are over 18 or past the age of maturity within the brain.

Sometimes kids are forced to become grown up too young due to poor family environments and therefore they lack things in their adult life which at times can then revert them back to childlike/teen forms where they become rebellious and negligent as adults, making up for lost times

Then there are others who mature in their adulthood, you will always make mistakes, it's how we learn to not do the same things again and how to better ourselves. Never compare your own maturity to others, as we all develop quite differently, it's what makes the human race unique

Being an adult has no age requirement. It means making choices and being prepared for the consequences. It means taking responsibility for your life.
I fancied myself Peter Pan until I was much older, and have surprised myself at how many times I make informed decisions now. If I make a mistake, I choose to find the lesson and decide not to do that again.
I still have a youthful outlook on life...that's not childish.
And being adult means knowing the choices we make do not always meet our expectations.

I think you know when you've made it to the grown-up stage, when finally understand a answer to a question you asked when you were young finally makes some sense. Its like a light bulb that goes off. And you says to your self "That's what he meant by saying that." Only when youre old enough, and wise enough, to understand why we make are own mistakes, and why we didn't learn the first time we made them. Its then, we know , what we ARE!

The brain doesn't mature until 23 for girls and 25 for boys.

Even after that we all still make mistakes. It's part of our humanity.
